Code of Conduct
SaddleDrunk Cycling Club Limited ("The Club") aims to be a friendly, welcoming and inclusive club. We exist to provide facilities for and to promote participation in the amateur sport of cycling in the London Borough of Ealing and immediate surrounding boroughs.
Membership of the Club is open to anyone interested in the sport on application. This is regardless of what we call “the protected characteristics” – which are (except as a necessary consequence of the requirements of cycling) sex, age, disability, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion or other beliefs. The Club is committed to ensuring the cycling-related welfare of its members, where all members feel happy to participate in all our activities given that non-discriminatory basis of the Club’s membership.
For this reason, the directors have adopted this Code of Conduct expected of members; all members are bound by this Code as a condition of their ongoing membership. Any member concerned that the Code has been broken, or may be broken, should contact Kathie Bynish, who is a director of the Club. You do not have to be the person directly affected to raise a concern.
The Club is committed to ensuring that its members are able to conduct their activities in an environment that is free from harassment, intimidation or bullying.
The Club regards discrimination, harassment or bullying, as described below, as gross misconduct.
Any member of the Club who discriminates against any other person, may have their membership terminated.
Discrimination: Within the Club this occurs by treating a person worse than someone else because of a protected characteristic.
Any member of the Club who harasses any other member, may have their membership terminated.
Harassment: Is unwanted conduct which has the purpose or effect of violating someone’s dignity or which is hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive to someone with a protected characteristic or in a way that is sexual in nature.
Any member of the Club who bullies or victimises any other member, may have their membership terminated.
Bullying: Bullying is one form of personal harassment. It is the misuse of power or position to persistently criticise or to humiliate and undermine an individual’s confidence.
Victimisation: Treating someone less favourably because they have taken (or might be taking) action to raise a complaint under this Code with the Club or under the law, or supporting someone who is or may be doing so.
The Club is not just the rides, but also the social engagement around and outside the rides. For that reason, the behaviours and actions covered by this Code are not limited to the rides but extend to all forms of engagement within the Club, including the online environment.
Additionally, the directors may remove membership if they determine that actions and behaviours exhibited by a member within or outside of any Club setting of the types above are incompatible with the safety and well-being of members either generally or with a protected characteristic, or otherwise are likely to bring the Club or the sport into disrepute.
